Allied health professional insurance

With insurance options for a vast range of modalities, we can arrange cover for you – while you care for your clients.

What insurance do I need to consider as a health professional?

Much like the role preventative measures play in the health and wellness industry, insurance is an important precautionary step to help cover your business from the unexpected.

Depending on your business risk exposures, you might consider a number of different insurance solutions. Typically, two options pertinent to allied health professionals are professional indemnity and public liability cover.

What’s covered?

  • Up to $10 million professional indemnity cover

The limit of liability is the maximum amount that can be provided under the insurance policy.

  • Breach of duty

Cover for claims from alleged breaches of fiduciary duty in the performance of healthcare services.

  • Defamation

Cover for claims for defamation, libel and slander committed in the performance of healthcare services.

  • Telehealth

Cover for claims arising from the performance of telehealth services.

  • Lost or damaged documents

$500,000 sub limit for claims arising from loss or damage to third-party documents.

  • 7 years automatic run-off cover

Subject to policy wording terms and conditions.

  • Public liability as a standard extension

Help protect your business against third-party claims resulting from accidents or injuries that occur as a result of your business activities with public liability insurance.

Frequently asked questions

A number of different factors may influence the cost of professional indemnity insurance, such as the service provided, company size and revenue.

When requesting a quote, make sure the declared value of your business is accurate so we can arrange the correct premium and cover for you.

Professional indemnity insurance covers up to $10 million. Public liability insurance covers up to $20 million.

‘Claims made’ is a term used to describe an insurance policy that covers claims that are notified during the policy term. This may not necessarily be the same period in which the accused incident or error resulting in the claim occurred.

Professional indemnity policies provide a 'claims made' basis of cover because advice or service errors in many professions are often discovered weeks, months or even years after the mistake was made.

If the limit of indemnity has changed, it is the limit purchased when the claim is notified that applies – not the limit purchased when the work was completed.

Our team can provide support and proactively guide clients through the claims process.

Contact your Marsh representative to assist with lodging a claim.

Allied healthcare forms a large portion of the health industry. And professionals must strive to avoid causing their clients harm or injury – exposing them to many risks.

This heightened risk exposure highlights the importance of having insurance that can cover your business from negligent claims – even if you’re not at fault.

Before Marsh can arrange cover for an allied health professional, they will need to have:

  • Relevant qualifications for any modalities they practise

  • A membership with a relevant Australian-based association.
