What Insurance should Zumba Instructors consider?

Most Zumba instructors find enjoyment out of helping their clients have fun with high-intensity rhythm, moves and dance-fitness. However, even the most experienced instructors are not immune to accidents and without the right insurance cover, they could unintentionally impact the future of their business.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

We highly recommend all Zumba instructors consider professional indemnity insurance. This cover can prove helpful if an instructor were to ever provide instruction to complete a specific dance move that caused unintended injury to one of the students. Professional indemnity insurance can provide cover for Zumba instructors and their business if someone – client or third party - suffers a loss, injury or property damage after following the instructor’s advice or receiving their service.

Public Liability Insurance

Public liability insurance can help protect Zumba instructors against financial losses if a third party claims that they’ve sustained an injury or their property was damaged due to your negligent business activities.  Even when you are not at fault, you can still incur significant legal costs when defending yourself.

A copy of your public liability policy is often requested by gyms, studios or other public venues, including parks, when seeking use of their facility for a Zumba class.

Hypothetical Zumba Instructor claims example

During a fast-paced jump movement in a Zumba workout, a student sprains her ankle. She claims that the dance move requested was too advanced and resulted in her subsequent injury. This allegation, whether founded or unfounded may result in a negative financial impact on the Zumba instructing business due to the potential legal or medical expenses attached to the claim.

Whether this is your full-time small business, or part-time gig, don’t let examples like this stop you from doing something you enjoy. Zumba instructor insurance can help minimise these risks by covering you and your business against public liability and professional indemnity claims.
